Learning from social enterprise..major employers of the future?

There is much talk about social enterprises at the moment and their role in the economy. What is so interesting about these organisations is their soul and purpose. They have an internal engine that drives their business model based on have a meaning or as some would call it a higher purpose. What has struck me is they have been refered to as the 3rd sector well if you look at the research they are everything but that…

Research I picked up on the BBC website showed that the 100 top social enterprises grew by an average of 79% last year – companies included Big Issue, Jamie Olivers restaurant Fifteen and fair trade chocolate company Divine Chocolate. Whilst many social enterprises lack a commercial orientation those that have embraced good business practice have gone on to deliver great results. Not only do they add something back to society they have become serious employers – I believe this could grow even further. Commercial focus with a deep driven cause does provide  a powerful foundation for growth – what can SMEs learn from these fast growing social enterprises?…….3rd sector may just become 1st sector
